I hope to start posting here weekly. It will be about me, my wife, my son, and my dog and everything that we do together.
This Labor Day weekend, my parents came to town. Before they got here, the wife and child went shopping for the day on Friday, which left me with some time to play in the garage. I wanted to make a storage cabinet for small power tools and just help organize the “shop”. The gentleman who used to live in my house left all kinds free wood and hardware. This works out great for someone just getting into woodworking like me who has no budget.
The whole thing is made out of wafer board [cheapest plywood available] and held to together with glue and nails, the glue being the only thing I had to purchase. It is by no means complete, but I will be putting pictures up periodically.
So, back to the parents. They arrived on Friday via American Airlines, and Owen was able to stay up late to make the pickup trip at 8:30 pm. Early the next morning it was off to the golf course for a quick 9 with DOF. We walked, which is something we haven’t done on a golf course together since I played in tournaments as a kid. It was great, we were the second group out and no one really behind us, just the way I like it. We both played as well as we normally do and I even chipped in for birdie on the 4th.
We stopped by our favorite breakfast place Krispy Kreme for some doughnuts and coffee to go. Owen really like those lighter than air babies. For lunch we had the incredible Hutchins BBQ family pack with the addition of some peach cobbler, which is divine. And that evening, Jess and I were off on a hot date, while the grandparents took charge of the little one. This is where I have to complain about Yahoo Yellow Pages. They list a putt putt course in Plano that apparently never existed. That cost me 30 minutes of driving around after our dinner at Carrabbas, plus whatever gas I burned. I was so disappointed, as was Jess. Lesson learned, always call the number listed to confirm actual existence.
Sunday started with “Sunday Morning” on CBS as always, I highly recommend the show, if you can stand the crap that sometimes gets thrown in there. Afterwards, we went shooping at Toy-R-Us for Owen’s birthday. The grandparents won’t be here for it, so he got to open some things early. After shopping it was a late lunch at La Hacienda in Frisco, which if you only go for the table side guacamole is totally worth it.
The next day the grandparents were off, and of course it had to rain for my Mother to take off, which makes her very comfortable. Owen was sleeping and didn’t get to see them off, and he’ll miss them. They’ll be back for Christmas.
I think that’s long enough for the first entry.

Welcome to the blogosphere (I think that’s what it’s called this week). Great post, and looking forward to more.

Hi Josh! We have GOT to get together with you guys sometime for Krispy Kreme, putt putt (I freakin’ LOVE putt putt), and La Hacienda’s guac. – maybe not all at the same time, but you know what I mean! Glad you had a good weekend with the fam.
Please let Jess know that I’ve had a busy/crappy week and I’m sorry that I haven’t been in touch. We miss you guys – we need to start hanging out together more often for sure! Oh, and we will most definitely be at Owen’s 1st b-day bash – can’t wait!
